Hey there Fablanta. Not sure if you know but i originally created this wiki years ago. In all honesty i had no real idea that it was being used and updated. But i am happy that it has people using it. My contributions were pretty minor in the beginning when i was playing VC and i didn't really bother with it much after :P
If there's anything i can do to facilitate your running of the wiki just let me know :)
Nice to see you're still around. If it hadn't been for you I doubt there would be a Viking Clan Wiki (I certainly wouldn't have started one off my own bat).
Thanks for the offer of help. I don't know what wiki skills you still posses but we are always looking for data. Do you still play Viking Clan? If you do maybe you are high enough to fill in some of the blank stats. on our Blacksmith table.
We could also do with a bit of a write-up on being a Leader/Officer of a guild and what that entails. You could also do a page on the new mobile version if you use it. We also need suggestions for areas of VC that we don't currently cover.
I'm so sorry you feel like you don't have enough time to devote to editing the wikia. You will be missed on here. I will keep you on the books as an admin so if you ever want to return full time you don't have to do anything.
It's going to be a busy season at my job. I won't be able to help much with updating the item pages until it's over and I'm sure you'll have taken care of everything long before the season's up. I'll pop in everyday to see if you need updates done to the template when I do my dailies in game and update a few pages whenever I can. Season lasts anywhere from 1-3 months.
On the favor point page I was thinking of adding a couple sliders or Slideshows with the total Power/Strength being the main focus like you did for the items - Alphabetical. I think this will really help vistiors figure out which FP items are the best to get.
Basically it would be
Total Power 300 and under
A then a slider/slideshow with the images
Let me know what you think Aleshajorel (talk) 12:44, December 9, 2014 (UTC)
I didn't even know we had a Favor point page :-). Of all the items you could do this with I think favor point items would be the least useful because they are not permanently available. No point in tracking down an item if it was last on sale 6 weeks ago as a limited quantity purchase.
If you do have a bit of time on your hands how about adding the battle drop item to their own pages or adding a noteworthy category and include item that are important, useful or strange etc., to it.
Sure thing I'll start on those. I just thought it would be a good idea as I noticed that the limited items always eventually windup in the sales section. Right now, there is no way to know what the max power/attack/defense that the favor point items usually have or what items to keep and eye out for.
Actually adding them is useful for PvPer's who are trying to get the best setup in their "Personal Loadout". The item itself may or may not be attainable but another set of limited items will be and a visitor can get the stats from here and see if they are worth getting to improve their personal loadout.
Battles can be lost due to personal loadout and New Character boosts "My personal exp" When reviewing a battle report where my personal loadout is weaker I always come here and look up the stats for the items in my rivals personal loadout. Right now my goal is to have my att and def at 2000 but I don't know if it is possible since no one keeps track of what is the average stats on fp items. For instance is there a item with 500+ attack or defense "drools"?
Also as a fansite of Viking Clan I think we should collect all images :)
Sorry but I still don't get how knowing what the stats of someone else's loadout is helps to improve mine. If I saw that someone had a better PL and I wanted to improve mine there and then I would head for the Offers display on the home page (or the Gods menu). This is the only place you could find items to substantially increase the attack or defence of PLs. For us to be able to do that we would have to keep current on all limited time offers and perhaps sale offers as well. This strikes me as far too much work when it has such limited benefit.
This does explain why you have suggested a slideshow and favor point items list in the past though and added so many favor point items :-)
It never occurred to me before that this could be thought of as a fan site :-) My concept of it was as an information and advice site so adding stuff just for the sake of completeness is not something I would be prepared to spend much time on.
I you think it is a good idea you do not need my permission to go ahead and, after all, I could be wrong (there is always a first time for everything :-)).
To make it as useful as possible I think you should implement all the God item ideas you have suggested in the past ie. a category, sortable table slideshow etc.
I do not keep Favor point item data myself but I will make a point to go through the W&W lists on my clan pages and rip and upload the images and post the stats. for you when I feel up to the task :-).
I've just finished uploading all the limited items (using filter in VC) I have. Some with be Holiday stuff from before they started naming everything Kano and some will be crate items. Any you can't find stats for let me know. Its 07:28 AM here so I'm off to bed :-)
When we get to that bridge I guess we'll just have to call the Blacksmith.png something like Blacksmith (Warrior).png and change the Name, Image and Caption inputs as needed when filling in the template.
When I was fixing the gap I realized we never discussed categories. The template will auto-categorize as a user fills out infobox item form. I was putting all Items under category:items as that category already existed. Do you want more categories?
Category:Warrior = category page with all warriors
Category:Weapon = cateogry page with all weapons
Category:Blacksmith = category page with all blacksmithed items
Category:Favor Point = category page with all items purchased with favor points
Let me know if you want to add more categories and the names of the categories you would like to add. Aleshajorel (talk) 13:55, November 21, 2014 (UTC)
At the moment I can't really think of any sub-categories that would actually be helpful to anyone. Is there anyway to change how categories are displayed. The default seems to be the equivalent of MS Window Explorer's extra large icons which is just a large thumbnail with the name underneath which is only useful for identifying an item's name from what it looks like (or visa versa). Unless you can, for example, filter for multiple categories like Warrior - Drop - Asgard to find warrior drops in Asgard.

I can only make it auto-categorize the info that would be entered into the infobox form. For example since vikingclan only has 2 types of items I can make it autocategorize Category:Warriors & Category:Weapons. To make it autocategorize based off of location would mean a new section would need to be added to template:infobox and more customizations to the infoboxes layout. This also means a more complex template:infobox that you will need to learn use in case I stop playing vc and you need to make changes.
Doh! I've noticed the list/box view before but it did not make sense until we actually had graphics in there. I do prefer the list view it's just a pity it cannot be applied to List Files.
It also looks like you can have sub-categories but the help gives nothing away on that subject :-)
Category Tree showed more promise to at least get more text on a page but it does not continue on to other pages and stops in the Ds. The list view does the job though and might be even more useful once we figure out sub-cats.
If we can get sub-cats. it might be nice to have them for different item types ie. Adventure drops, Battle drops, coin buys, FPs, Bosses etc. , but nice does not mean useful. For instance can you think of a senario where having a page showing just battle drops and their names would be useful?
You are right that adding all those aut-categories to the template would be a needless complication. If I ever get round to doing my importing program it would be easy to add them to the bottom of the page section then.
Just noticed that your template is adding the category items as well as weapons/warrior. Up until now I have been adding category items from the drop-down list. Not having to do that should save me a few seconds per item :-)
On the Blacksmith location pages I noticed that some ingredients have the stats. on the same line, some on a separate line. When I have to edit a recipe what I have been doing is putting in a br line space between then item name and its stats. to give a more consistent look. When the main editing has been done I will go back and modify them all like this.
This is what the space bit refers to in my name & space, edit comments.
If I haven't got the level number of an item that should have one (or a derived one) I put ?? into the level field and try to remember to mark it as a stub.
I noticed that about some of the blacksmith location pages but I didn't want to make any major changes to it because I wasn't sure how you wanted it done. I hesitated about adding the 2 items to the Blacksmith/Asgard page because I wasn't sure if it was deliberate that you left the off.
The level section is a if function so you want to leave it blank and then add later you can.
